Choose corral panels by the enclosure layout, panel height and openings between rails. Blacktail’s standard horse panels are 10 ft or 12 ft long and 5 ft tall; the Mustang panel is 24 ft long and 6 ft tall.
The range includes four-rail, five-rail, wire-mesh and wood-insert panels. The right combination depends on the horses, the ground and the connections to gates or existing fencing.
12 ft panels for longer runs
A 12 ft panel covers more of a straight fence line than a 10 ft panel. Both four-rail and five-rail versions are 5 ft tall and use 14-gauge steel.
Mark the full run and gate openings before counting panels. Allow for the way the panels meet at corners and connect to any existing fence.
10 ft panels for shorter sections
The 10 ft panels are useful for shorter runs, changes in direction and layouts where a 12 ft section does not fit. Four-rail and five-rail versions are available.

Compare rail spacing and wire mesh
Standard four-rail panels list 14-1/4-inch rail spacing; five-rail panels list 10-1/4 inches. The 12 ft by 5 ft wire-mesh panel has a 2 by 3-inch grid on four structural rails.
Consider the size and behavior of the animals and what is on the other side of the enclosure. Choose the opening pattern as well as the panel length.
The 6 ft tall Mustang panel
The Mustang is a 24 ft by 6 ft panel with six rails and 1-5/8-inch steel tubing. Its greater height and length make it a different layout choice from the standard 5 ft panels.
Confirm the space needed to unload, position and connect a 24 ft section before ordering.
Wood-insert panels
The 10 ft and 12 ft wood-insert panels include wood insert clamps. Wood is excluded, and panel connection clamps are sold separately.
The 12 ft version is designed for 2 by 10 boards. Confirm the required board size for the 10 ft version before buying timber.
