Z-Purlins

Galvanized Z-purlins in 6 and 8 inch profiles, 10 to 25 ft. The frame under every roof we sell.

Z-purlins carry the roof sheet between frames, and these are the same galvanized zee purlins we put under our own shelters and mare motels. On this page: 6-inch profiles in 10, 12, 20, and 25 ft, and 8-inch profiles in 12 and 25 ft for sloped roofs and longer spans. Sold by the piece. PBR panels and ridge caps are on the roofing page. Spans and spacing stay in the roofing and purlins guide.

Quick answers

Questions about z-purlins

What is a Z-purlin?

A horizontal structural member with a Z-shaped profile that carries the roof sheet between frames. The zee shape lets one purlin lap over the next at a support, which is what makes long continuous runs practical.

Do I need the 6 inch or 8 inch profile?

6 inch covers most shelter and shed-row spans. Step up to 8 inch for sloped roofs and longer spans, which is why the 8-inch profiles ship in the 12 and 25 ft lengths.

Are these purlins galvanized?

Yes, all of them. A purlin sits where nobody looks and condensation collects, so the coating is not optional.

Do purlins carry the Blacktail lifetime warranty?

No. Purlins, PBR panels, and ridge caps are bought-in material and carry the manufacturer coating warranty. The lifetime warranty covers frames and welds we make.
